GUELPH, Ont.- The Brock University men's basketball team continued their struggles on the road, dropping an 82-68 decision to the Guelph Gryphons Saturday afternoon.
The Badgers are now just 2-7 on the road during the regular season, but close out the OUA season with four of their last five games at home.
Guelph opened the game with a 13-1 run, and held the lead for the remainder of the game, improving to 7-6 on the season. With the loss, Brock falls to 5-9 and sit in fourth place in the OUA Central Division.
Brock had four players reach double digits led by
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) who added a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds. Rookie
Johneil Simpson (Toronto, Ont.) collected 17 points and eight boards, while
Matt Marshall (Burlington, Ont.) (11 points, 9 rebounds) and
Zachary Angelini (Hamlton, Ont.) (10 points) rounded out the Brock leaders.
The Gryphons had all five starters in double digits, led by Daniel Dooley who registered 21 points and five rebounds. Trevor Thompson contributed with 14 points and seven rebounnds, while Adam Kemp, Andrew Grant and Jonathan Wallace all chipped in with 10 points each in the win. Kemp also pulled down 11 rebounds for the double-double.
As a team, Brock shot just 38.9% (21-for-54) from the field, 26.7% (4-for-15) from long range and 68.8% (22-for-32) from the free throw line. Guelph shot 33.8% (25-for-74) from the field, 29.4% (5-for-17) from beyond the arc and a season high 93.1% (27-for-29) from the charity stripe. Versus Guelph, the Badgers also put up the least amount of shots in a game (54), since the regular season opener back on November 7th versus No. 2 ranked Carleton.
The Badgers return to action Wednesday, February 4th at 8pm when they host the Waterloo Warriors at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
