WATERLOO, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team improved to 9-2 in conference play as they defeated the Waterloo Warriors by the score of 9-4 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Badgers jumped out to a 1-0 lead with rookie
Rob Byckowski (Milton, Ont.) scoring
Justin Gideon (Pickering, Ont.) in the first inning, The Warriors would answer back with one in the bottom of the first and two more in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead after four innings.
In the fifth, Brock would make it a one run game as
Phil Steer (Toronto, Ont.) scored on a Gideon sacrifice fly.
In the top of the seventh, Brock would score five runs on a
Dennon Koziol (Hamilton, Ont.) RBI single and a grandslam from Byckowski to take a 7-3 lead.
The Badgers added two more insurance runs in the eighth on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Byckowski to make it 9-3.
Brock had 16 hits in total led by by Byckowski who went 4-for-5 with a career high six RBI.
Ricky Ferri (St. Catharines, Ont.) was 4-for-5 with three doubles while
Jordan Grant collected three hits going 3-for-5.
Rounding out the offense were Koziol (2-for-4, RBI) and Quinton Twohey (London, Ont.) and
Blake Stepien (Guelph, Ont.) who both added singles.
Dylan Perego (Waterdown, Ont.) picked up a no decision throwing five complete innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three. Rookie
Chase Porter (Whitby, Ont.) picked up the win throwing three shutout innings giving up one hit while striking out one.
The Badgers return to action Sunday, October 4th when they host the McMaster Marauders at George Taylor Field.
