ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team clinched the OUA regular season title Friday as they swept the season series against the Toronto Varsity Blues. The Badgers won Game One by the score of 10-6 and Game Two 19-0.
It was also head coach
Jeff Lounsbury's 200th OUA regular season conference victory.
In Game One,
Ben Kirby (Burlington, Ont.) led the offense going 3-for-4 with four RBI.
Quinton Twohey (London, Ont.) continued to swing a strong bat going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
Noah Koffman also collected two hits going 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.
On the hill,
Dylan Perego (Waterdown, Ont.) went six innings allowing six runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out two. Rookie
Chase Porter (Whitby, Ont.) recorded the win after throwing three shutout innings with three K's.
Andrew Mannone and Tanner Young-Schultz both collected three hits each for the Varsity Blues.
In Game Two, the Badgers put up 13 runs in the bottom of the second en route to their 14th straight conference win.
Ryan Laird (Aurora, Ont.)
led the Badgers 13-hit attack going 2-for-4 with a homerun, double and four RBI. Blake Stepien (Guelph, Ont.) was 1-for-5 with a homerun and five RBI.
Justin Gideon (Pickering, Ont.) (2-for-3, RBI), Twohey (2-for-2, RBI), Koffman (2-for-4, RBI) and
Taylor McVey (Milton, Ont.) all chipped in with two hits each.
Southpaw starter
Jeff Baggaley (Whitby, Ont.) recorded the victory after throwing four complete innings, allowing no runs on two hits with six strikeouts.
