ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team improved to 8-2 in conference play as they swept the Ryerson Rams Sunday afternoon at George Taylor Field. The Badgers won Game One by the score of 6-3 and Game Two 11-3.
In Game One, Brock starter
Ryan Beckett (Tiny, Ont.) picked up the win going 6 1/3 innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out four and walking four. In relief, rookie
Chase Porter (Whitby, Ont.) struck out four of the six batters he faced and senior closer
Phil Owen (Richmond Hill, Ont.) got the Rams in order in the 9th for the save.
Rob Byckowski (Milton, Ont.) led the way going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Blake Stepien (Guelph, Ont.) went 2-for-4 with a double and
Justin Gideon (Pickering, Ont.) was 2-for-5 with a double. Adding single hits were
Dennon Koziol (Hamilton, Ont.) (1-for-5, double, RBI),
Jordan Grant (Mississauga, Ont.) (1-for-4, RBI),
Phil Steer (Toronto, Ont.) (1-for-3, RBI) and
Josh Wray (Burnaby, Ont.) (1-for-4).
In Game Two, the Badgers jumped out to 4-0 lead in the bottom and never looked back on route to their 8th consecutive conference victory.
Quinton Twohey (London, Ont.) (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Gideon (2-for-5, RBI, 2 stolen bases), and Grant (2-for-4, RBI, double) all chipped in with two hits each.
Ryan Laird (Aurora, Ont.) drove in two runs while Steer (1-for-3, RBI), Michael Enss Ward (Mississauga, Ont.) (1-for-3, RBI) and Koziol (1-for-2) rounded out the offense.
On the hill,
Brandon Beattie (Niagara on the Lake, Ont.) threw 3 1/3 innings allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout for the victory.
