ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University men's hockey team dropped an 8-6 decision to the Ryerson Rams Wednesday morning at the Meridian Centre.
Ryerson opened the scoring five minutes into the opening period as Marcus Hinds added his first goal of the season, with Michael Fine adding the assist. Just three minutes later, the Rams took a 2-0 lead as Hinds and Josh Sterk setup Fine for his second of the year.
The Badgers would answer right back just 52 seconds later as
Sammy Banga (Windsor, ON) beat Ryerson starter Charlie Graham for his second goal of the campaign. Brock evened the game 2-2 at 12:06 of the first period as
Skylar Pacheco (Kitimat, BC) and
Andrew Radjenovic (Hamilton, ON) found Banga for his second of the contest.
The Rams took a 3-2 lead with five minutes left in the first as Austin Kosack drilled one under the crossbar past Brock rookie goaltender
Adam Beukeboom (Sundre, AB).
In the final minute and ten seconds of the first, Brock took their first lead of the game after registering back-to-back goals from
Adam Lloyd (Orleans, ON) and
Matt MacLeod (Niagara Falls, ON). MacLeod's was a power play goal.
Ryerson evened the game 4-4 midway through the second period as Sterk setup Aaron Armstrong who registered his first goal of 2016. Sterk would make it 5-4 for the Rams with 4:14 left in the period.
Brock would once again answer with 1:57 remaining in the second, as
Brody Silk (Iroquois Falls, ON) added a power play marker to tie the game 5-5. Lloyd and
Dexter Weber (New Dundee, ON)Â added the assists.
Midway through the third, Armstrong added his second and third goals of the game with two shorthanded markers just 30 seconds apart to put Ryerson up 7-5. John Carpino would give the Rams an insurance marker with 2:37 left in regulation.
In the final minute with the goalie pulled,
Greg Jambrosich (St. Catharines, ON) setup Radjenovic for his first of the season and fourth point of the game to make the final 8-6.
In goal, Beukeboom recorded 25 saves in his first career OUA start while Ryerson's Graham also collected 25 saves for the win.
The Badgers are now on the road for four consecutive games, beginning Saturday, October 15th at 7:30 pm when they take on the Guelph Gryphons.
