ST. CATHARINES, ON - The No. 6 ranked Brock University men's basketball defeated the Guelph Gryphons by the score of 86-75 Saturday afternoon at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Brock held a seven point lead after 10 minutes 20-13. In the second quarter, Guelph cut the lead to three points as the Badgers held a 40-37 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, there was three ties and three lead changes. Brock held a 55-54 lead with three minutes left, before closing out the quarter on an 11-0 run, leading 66-54 after 30 minutes.Â
In the final quarter, Brock led by as many as 18 points, on route to their 11th win over the last 12 games.
Brock had five players in double figures led by
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, ON) who recorded 23 points and 15 rebounds. With his 15 rebounds, Elgadi becomes just the 6th player in school history to reach that mark. He also surpassed 1800 career points and closes in on Allen MacDougall (1853) for 8th all-time.
Johneil Simpson (Toronto, ON) contributed with 15 points, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, while
Cassidy Ryan (Mississauga, ON) added 14 points off the bench.
Ryan Bennett (Toronto, ON) and
Trevor Thompson (Burlington, ON) both chipped in with 11 points in the victory.
Ahmed Haroon led the Gryphons in scoring finishing with 18 points and seven rebounds. Also in double digits for Guelph were Taylor Boers (14), Jordon Sobot (12) and Daniel Dooley (11).Â
For the game, Brock shot 50.7% (34-for-67) from the field, 4-for-10 (40.0%) from beyond the arc and 14-19 (73.7%) from the charity stripe. Guelph went 28-for-69 (40.6%), 5-for-10 (50.0%) from long range and 14-for-29 (48.3%) from the free throw line.
