
ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University baseball team (6-2 OUA) started its home stand at George Taylor Field against the York Lions on Saturday. The Badgers won both games convincingly taking Game One 12-2 and Game Two by the score of 8-2.
After allowing a run in the first inning, the Badgers got on the board with
Matthew Casburn (St. Catharines) hiting an RBI single in the second inning to score
Noah Koffman (Richmond Hill, ON). The Badgers would add two more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Brock would put the game away scoring a combined nine runs through the last three innings of the game.
Matthew Legg (Vancouver, BC) led the Badgers with two hits, including a triple, and one RBI. He would also score two runs.
Brock starter
Derek Zwolinski (Burlington, ON) pitched the entire game going seven innings with five strikeouts and three walks, allowing two runs and three hits.
In Game Two, the Badgers controlled the game going ahead 5-0 after five innings, including RBI's from
Blake Stepien (Guelph, ON) and
Spencer Gorick (Harrow, ON).
The Lions would cut into the lead scoring a run in the top of the sixth inning.
But the Badgers would answer back adding three more runs making it 8-1 after six innings.
Koffman had a great game for the Badgers leading the team with four hits, all of them singles.
Brock had strong pitching with starter
Rhys Tapper (Ancaster, ON) going 5.2 innings with four strikeouts and two walks allowing one run and four hits.
Matthew Balkwill (Chatham, ON) would close the game pitching 1.1 innings with three walks, allowing one run and two hits. \
The Badgers next play Sunday afternoon against the Guelph Gryphons at George Taylor Field. Game times are 12pm and 3:30pm.
