OSHAWA, Ont. – The Badgers Ringette team headed out to Oshawa this weekend to compete against 6 other Ontario Universities. In the new University division this year, teams competed in 4 round-robin games, with the top 2 teams advancing to the finals.
Friday began with the Badgers facing the Trent Excalibur. Brock came out at full speed, taking the game with a 5-3 victory.
Brienne Paterson and
Jordyn Cousins recorded two goals a piece, with
Mahren Young tallying one of her own. Goaltender

On Saturday, Brock competed in two tough games facing this year's University Challenge Cup (UCC) hosts, the Guelph Gryphons, and the UCC reigning national champions, the Ottawa Gee-Gees. The University of Guelph put up a fast-paced game, but it was no match for the red and blue charge. Four different Badgers found the back of the net, including
Abby Joris,
Raegan Hayter,
Makayla Campbell and Young. Goaltender
Alyssa Godin was able to defend two breakaways late in the second half, to secure the victory for the Badgers. The second game saw the University of Ottawa hit the ice at full speed putting two past the Badgers in the first 5 minutes of the game. Although
Karsen Lewis was able to net one of her own, it was not enough as the Badgers fell 3-1 to the Gee-Gees.
In a must win game Sunday morning, the Brock Badgers faced the Laurier Golden Hawks. After lots of back and forth action, Lewis was able to put one past the goaltender, but the Golden Hawks quickly responded by scoring one of their own before the end of the first half. Laurier was able to shut out the Badgers for the second half, defeating Brock 3-1.
Carleton University and the University of Ottawa both advanced to the finals, where the Carleton Ravens took home the gold. Both Cousins and Paterson of the Badgers were able to finish the tournament in the top 10, for points recorded among all players in the University division. The Badgers next hit the ice on Sunday, November 12, against the Mississauga Mustangs at the Gale Centre in Niagara Falls.
