The Brock Badgers' ringette team is heading to the provincial championships.
The Badgers won their first ringette gold medal, a 6-0 win over Nipissing, at the Niagara Falls Ringette Tournament on March 3 and are preparing for the Dave Bennett University Cup at the provincial championships in Waterloo from March 7-10.
"I was so proud of the way that the girls played all weekend, but especially yesterday in the finals," said captain Allison Sage. "We played the game as a team and it really showed. It was a really fun game to play in and was perfect preparation for the team as we head into our provincial event this coming weekend."
Brock will compete against seven other university teams from across Ontario.
"We will be very competitive with all of the other teams and I think we have a great shot at bringing home another medal for Brock," said Sage, a fourth-year Kinesiology student. "It's going to be a great weekend to finish off my career as a Badger and I couldn't ask for a better group of girls to be doing it with. It is bitter sweet, but I know that we are going to put on a great show this weekend and leave it all on the ice."
In Niagara Falls, the Badgers completed the round robin stage with a perfect 4-0 record with wins of Nipissing (7-3), Trent (5-2), McMaster (8-1) and Trent (8-1).
