The Brock University baseball team swept the regular season series against the Laurier Golden Hawks Saturday afternoon at George Taylor Field. The Badgers took Game One by the score of 9-3 and won Game Two 3-2.
Brock baseball also celebrated their annual Alumni Day with over 30 former players and coaches in attendance.
In Game One, the Badgers were led by
Noah Koffman who went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
Justin Gideon contributed with two doubles and an RBI while
Matthew Legg (2-for-4, RBI) and
Tyler Nakamura (2-for-2, 3 runs) both chipped in with two hits each.
Nick Spillman went 1-for-5 with two RBI with
Jaiden Hill (1-for-5 RBI) and
Matthew Casburn (1-for-3) rounding out the offense.
For the Golden Hawks, Daniel Apostoli went 4-for-5 to lead the way. Ryley Davenport (2-for-3, RBI), Dallas Taylor (2-for-4) and Connor Patterson (2-for-4) all collected two hits each in the loss.
On the hill, Brock starter
Alex Nolan threw five innings allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out seven for the victory. Southpaw reliever
Andrew Raponi pitched the remainder four innings allowing one run on five hits with one strikeout.
In Game Two, Brock starter
Chase Porter threw 6 1/3 innings allowing two runs on three hits while striking out eight. Lefty
Ryan Bench got the Badgers out a jam in the 7th and
Jake Near closed the door the the 8th retiring the Golden Hawks in order for the save.
Offensively, Hill had a walk-off double in the bottom of the 8th to lead the Badgers to the weekend sweep. Spillman (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Koffman (2-for-4, RBI) both contributed with two hits each with
Nathan Laird adding a double and
Matt Pigat a single.
