The Brock University women's lacrosse team walked away with two wins this weekend at Western on Saturday. The Badgers won 9-4 against the McMaster Marauders and 12-5 against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
McMaster scored first, but the Badgers quickly bounced back with two quick goals from
Victoria Halliday and
Shania Porter. The Marauders tied it up 2-2, but
Tessa Czerlau was able to put the Badgers ahead at half. Entering the second half, the Badgers popped five unanswered goals, from
Emma Mete, another from Halliday, Czerlau, Porter, and
Eryn Brown. The Marauders were able to put in their third goal of the game, but it wasn't enough as
Gillian Webster added the 9th and final goal.
During the afternoon game, the Badgers used their momentum from the earlier game, and walked away with a 12-5 victory over the Golden Hawks. The Badgers were able to get on the score board first with a goal from Brown, but the Golden Hawks answered quickly with a goal to tie it up. The Hawks went up by two, but Brock fought back to tie it at 3-3 with goals from Mete and
Olivia Langdon. Another goal was added bringing the Hawks ahead before Halliday tied it up late 4-4. To open the second half, Halliday put Brock up 5-4, but shortly after the Hawks tied it up at five. The Badgers responded with seven straight goals from
Kendra Byers, Brown (2),
Brittany Schwende, Lindsay Highfield (2), and Halliday.
Mackenzie Singer and her defense;
Rachel Debon, Byers, Mel McCall, and
Lyanne Martin were able to put a stop to the Marauders and Golden Hawks offensive line.
The Brock Badgers look forward to the rest of their season, where they will face York and Trent in Guelph.
