The Brock Badgers baseball team's strength is pitching and it was on full display to kickoff the OUA championships in Ajax on Friday.
The Badgers opened the championships 2-0 by defeating McMaster 7-3 in the morning and Western 9-2 in the afternoon.
Chase Porter struck out 15Â batters and the Badgers opened the tournament with a 7-3 win over McMaster. In their afternoon game, pitchers Matthew Balkwill and Jacob Ebbs combined for 12 strikeouts to shutdown the Western Mustangs 9-2.
Brock carried a 4-0 lead into the sixth inning versus McMaster before the Marauders got on the board.
Designated hitter Ben Tiw hit a double for to cash in two runners, while shortstop Noah Koffman added a pair of hits, including a double. Tyler Giancos, Jacob Underwood and Matthew Cashburn each recorded a hit.
Against Western, the Badgers trailed 2-0 until the third innings, yet they exploded for eight runs in the sixth.
Cashburn drove in a pair of runs while Koffman also added an RBI.
Giancos, Koffman and Ryan Bench each tallied two hits. Nathan Laird and Connor Humphrey each notched a hit.
