Women's basketball player Miranda Smith, men's basketball player Johneil Simpson and men's hockey goalie Logan Thompson each earned Brock University Muscle MLK Athlete of the Week honours for the week ending Dec. 2.
Smith, a second-year Medical Sciences student from Welland, scored 17 points and connected on five three-pointers to lift the Brock women's basketball team to a 75-73 win over the visiting York Lions on Saturday. Smith also contributed 12 points in a 75-63 loss to Queen's on Friday.
Simpson, a fifth-year Bachelor of Arts student from Toronto, led all scorers with 28 points during a close victory with York at home on Saturday. Simpson also contributed seven rebounds and two assists to help the Badgers win 96-94. Simpson scored 16 points and nine rebounds in Brock's 85-64 win over Queen's on Friday.
Thompson, a first-year Social Sciences student from Calgary, Alberta, backstopped the Badgers to back-to-back victories over the Guelph Gryphons and Ryerson Rams. Thompson made 19 saves during a 5-3 win over Guelph on Friday and allowed only a goal on 30 shots during a 4-1 victory over the No. 4-ranked Rams on Saturday. Thompson is 11-3 with a 2.40 goals against average and .931 save percentage in 14 starts this season.
