The Brock men's and women's soccer teams open the first round of the OUA playoffs at Brock Alumni Field on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
The women's team hosts the McMaster Marauders at 6 p.m. and the men's team welcomes the Windsor Lancers at 8:15 p.m.
Brock's women's team (7-3-4) won both matches with the Marauders (7-5-2) this season. Brock shut out McMaster 2-0 at home on Sept. 14 and then wrapped up the season with a critical 1-0 win in Hamilton last Sunday. The victory guaranteed the Badgers home-field advantage to begin the post-season.
"McMaster has an experienced team with several seniors that have been to nationals," said head coach Lucio Ianiero. "They have strong strikers and fast wingers. If we aren't on our game defensively we could be in trouble."
Goalkeeper Marilena Spagnolo and the Badgers allowed the third-lowest goals against in the OUA this season. Spagnolo's .933 save percentage ranked second among OUA keepers and was fourth with a 0.55 goals against average.
"In order for us to be successful we will have to deal with their speed and capitalize on the few chances that they give up defensively," added Ianiero.
Meanwhile, the men's team (6-5-3) split two previous meetings with the Lancers (4-5-5) this season. Brock defeated Windsor 2-1 at home on Sept. 1 and then later lost on the road by a score of 3-2 on Sept. 22.
"We've seen Windsor twice and they're pretty good," said Ianiero. "They key off of one guy up top and look to feed him the ball while everyone else makes their runs and hope to get them the ball. If we can eliminate that then I think we stand a pretty good chance."
Brock striker Jared Agyemang, who finished second in the OUA in scoring with 13 goals, scored a total of three goals against Windsor this season.
Admission to the game is free. Parking in Zone 1 is free after 6 p.m., while paid parking is available at visitor Lots D, P and along University Road West (in front of Walker Sports Complex).
