The McMaster Marauders saved their best performance for the final quarter.
The Marauders outscored the Brock men's basketball team 21-10 in the fourth to squeak by the Badgers 74-72 at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday.
"I thought our guys fought, but we got outrebounded in the second half and you're not going to win any basketball games that way," said Brock head coach Willy Manigat. "We have to compete. I thought we did that for the most part, but if you don't match their intensity you're going to end up on the wrong side of the score."
Brock held a slight lead, 40-37, at halftime and registered their highest-scoring frame in the third (22 points).
"We kept the tempo, but if you don't rebound and get stops you're not going to win in the OUA," said Manigat.
McMaster outrebounded Brock 47-33.
Guard Godsman Kwakwah led the team Badgers in scoring with 18 points and forward Daniel Cayer hauled down 11 rebounds and posted 11 points along with five assists.
Tyler Brown scored 13 points and contributed four assists and three steals. Aaron Golbourne registered 11 points.
For McMaster, Jordan Henry scored 14 points and Connor Gilmore added 10.
Up next, the Badgers (1-1) visit the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m.
