The Brock Badgers hosted the Waterloo Warriors for a friendly final tuneup meet on Jan. 25 in preparation for the OUA Swimming Championships from Feb. 6-8 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough.
Individual top-three placings were recorded by Jordyn Bandstra, Isabella Bonaldo, Victoria Cabraja, Mara Di Persio, Claire Kehler, Megan Piche, Georgia Rudolph, Maggie Smith, Gokhan Bozyigit, Anthonie Korstanje, Julien Legault, Steven Taylor and Daniel Tsaiger.
The Badgers also managed to win both Medley Relay events as Smith, Bandstra, Di Persio, Rudolph teamed up to win the women's event. For the men, Legault, Orhan Aydogan, Tsaiger and Robert Ho won.
In the previous weekend, Badgers swim team competed at a pair of meets in Toronto.
A few members of the varsity team competed in the prestigious annual Toronto Grand Prix at the University of Toronto from Jan. 17-18.
The Grand Prix competition attracted many top Canadian swimmers, and included representatives from all the OUA teams.
Top performance for the Badgers came from Gokhan Bozyigit with a strong bronze in the 400m freestyle. He added two other top-10 finishes, in the 200m freestyle and the 200m butterfly.
Anthonie Korstanje added another Brock top-eight finish, placing seventh in the 200m breaststroke. Also placing in top-16 scoring positions for the Badgers were Isabella Bonaldo, Maggie Smith, Julien Legault, and Steven Taylor.
Anthonie Korstanje had the top Badger finish at the Winter Invitational competition, taking Gold in the 400m Individual Medley. Gokhan Bozyigit took Silver in the 1500m Freestyle, while Georgia Rudolph (400m Freestyle), Maggie Smith (200 Individual Medley), and Daniel Tsaiger (400m Freestyle) added Bronze.
Placing top-16 at the Winter Invitational were Jordyn Bandstra, Isabella Bonaldo, Victoria Cabraja, Orhan Aydogan, Vince Ferro, Robert Ho, Julien Legault, and Steven Taylor.
