Badgers open exhibition schedule with win over Waterloo

The Brock men's hockey team opened the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) exhibition season with a 5-1 road win over the Waterloo Warriors on Thursday, Oct. 14.

The Badgers stormed back with five unanswered goals after surrendering a power-play goal late in the first period to seal the win.

The offence was led by first-year forward Jacob Roach, who scored two goals. Captain Jared Marino notched the game-winning goal in the dying seconds of the second.

Ryan Burton and defenceman Matthew Price-Barnes each added a goal. Adam Berg tallied two assists.

Justin Brack, Cole Thiessen, Johnny Schaefer and Ayden MacDonald each chipped in an assist.

Goaltender Mario Culina allowed only one goal on 30 shots from the Warriors to earn the victory.

Both teams ran into penalty trouble with 15 calls, including a game misconduct to Waterloo forward Dan Walker and a 10-minute misconduct to Brock's D'Artagnan Joly.

Next, the Badgers will host Windsor for their first exhibition game in the City of Port Colborne on Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre.
