Ambrogio, Badgers open OUA Baseball Regionals with win over Marauders

The host Brock Badgers opened the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Baseball Regionals with a 4-1 win over the McMaster Marauders at Oakes Park Stadium in Niagara Falls on Saturday, Oct. 9.

With four spots at the OUA Championship at stake, 14 teams from across the province are competing in four regional qualifiers this weekend. Hosted by the Brock Badgers, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, Carleton Ravens, and Laurentian Voyageurs, respectively.

Starting pitcher Connor Ambrogio went the distance to earn the win. He struck out six batters across nine innings while walking only one.

"Ambrogio keeps the hitters off balance, throws strikes and fills the zone while working at a quick pace. He keeps our guys in the game," said Brock head coach Marc LePage. "It's rare that he has long innings. Ambro is a dominant pitcher in this league."

A right-handed pitcher from Dorchester, Ambrogio allowed only one run on five hits.

Brock posted all four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Reid Lunney recorded an RBI.

Kenny Noguchi took the loss for McMaster after allowing four runs over one and one-third innings.

Tyler Giancos, Ashton Feijo, Reid Lunney, and David Polson each had a hit for Brock.

For the Marauders, Ethan Seymour went two-for-four at the plate.

Up next, McMaster (0-1) faces Guelph (0-0) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9. Brock (1-0) takes on Guelph at 5 p.m.
