Ayden MacDonald netted the game-winner and goaltender Mario Culina made 33 saves as the Brock men's hockey team edged the Toronto Varsity Blues 2-1 at Seymour-Hannah Arena on Saturday, Nov. 13.
It was Brock's second consecutive victory over Toronto following a 5-4 win on Nov. 11.
"I liked our guy's mental toughness tonight. We didn't have as much time and space as we did the other night," said head coach Kevin Forrest. "Our guys didn't get frustrated by it. Instead, they kept their composure, stuck to our game, and when we got quicker with our transitions and pushed the pace in the third, we were rewarded for it."
Toronto struck first with a power-play goal in the first period.
Brock forward Owen Guy scored his first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) career goal in the second. Jared Marino and Adam Berg each earned an assist on the goal.
The third period featured back-and-forth action before MacDonald found the back of the net for the game-winning goal at 8:55 of the third period.
D'Artagnan Joly and Christian Girhiny each recorded an assist.
"It was a hard-fought game, tied heading into the third, and we found a way to come out with the win and get the sweep on the weekend," MacDonald said. "Looking forward to doing it again next week."Â
Next, the Badgers (3-1) host the York Lions at Seymour-Hannah Arena on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7:15 p.m. Tickets can be found here.Â
