Brock baseball posts video game numbers in wins over Laurier

The Brock baseball offence posted video game-like numbers over the weekend.

The Badgers exploded for 45 runs in four games as they defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks in a series of doubleheaders.

Brock ran away in back-to-back games on Saturday, Sept. 25, by scores of 12-4 and 19-3 at Welland Sports Complex.

On Sunday, Sept. 26, in Kitchener, the Badgers opened with a 14-6 victory before falling 7-0.

Bryn Sanford, a third-year outfielder, lit up the scoreboard by going nine-for-15 for a total of nine RBI. He contributed seven runs.

On the mound, pitcher Connor Ambrogio dished out 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work, allowing six hits and only two earned runs in the first game against Laurier.

Hitting fifth in the batting order, Sanford belted his first home run of the season straight out of centre field in the second game versus Laurier on Saturday.

"All weekend, I felt as if I saw the ball well out of the pitcher's hand," said Sanford, a Teacher Education student from Newmarket. "On that swing, I ended up catching the ball in the middle of the barrel, and it resulted in the ball leaving the park. I'm happy I was able to help produce a few more runs for the team."

The Badgers' winning weekend was much needed after a pair of losses to Western in Welland on Sept. 19.

"This shows a lot of heart from our team," he said. "We had a tough day last Sunday versus Western, but all week at practice, it was a very competitive atmosphere, and the boys wanted to get back into the win column, which we did in a big way by taking three of four from a solid Laurier team."

Next, the Badgers (5-3) return to George Taylor Field in St.
Catharines for a doubleheader versus Waterloo (4-2) on Saturday, Oct. 2 at noon and 3 p.m.
