Brock men claim second straight provincial banner, women finish third at OUA Championships

ST CATHARINES - Taking part in the provincial championship on Saturday at the Royal Henley Rowing Course in St. Catharines, the Brock Badgers men's rowing team claimed their second consecutive banner, while the women placed third overall.

The men's rowing championship marks the 13th provincial banner in program history for the Badgers. With six podium finishes on Saturday (3 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) Brock was led by Stephen Harris who captured a pair of gold medals in the men's lightweight 2x and lightweight 8+. Harris would go on to be named OUA Men's Rower of the Year, while Brock coach Tom Kent was honoured as OUA Men's Rowing Coach of the Year.

Men's 4+: 2nd - Sam Stewart, Oskars Rugelis, Daniel Brophy, Jared Boles, cox Malcolm Cooper 

Men's Lightweight 2x: 1st - Stephen Harris, Thomas Markewich 

Men's Lightweight 1x: 1st - Jonathan Cinquina 

Men's Lightweight 4+: 1st - Jonathan Cinquina, Benjamin Hersche, Christopher Gomez, Samuel Maconco, cox Riley Pizek 

Men's 1x:  1st - Michael Ciepiela 

Men's 8+: 2nd - Sam Stewart, Michael Ciepiela, Daniel Brophy, Oskars Rugelis, Elijah Lopez, Keithan Woodhouse, Cameron Hickman, Jared Boles, cox Malcolm Cooper 

Men's Lightweight 2-:  3rd - Maddox Harrison, Ethan Mason 

Men's Lightweight 8+: 1st - Thomas Markewich, Stephen Harris, Christopher Gomez, Samuel Maconco, Benjamin Hersche, Connor Dodds, Maddox Harrison, Ethan Mason, cox Riley Pizek 

Para 1x: 3rd - Ian Steadman

Meanwhile for the women, Brock placed third for the second consecutive year. Top results included gold in the women's lightweight double with Isabella Durcak and Zoe Durcak. Brock coach Mary Rao was honoured as OUA Women's Rowing Coach of the Year.

Next up for Brock will be the Canadian University Rowing Championships (CURC) hosted at the Royal Henley Rowing Course next weekend.
