ST. CATHARINES - Heading into the second weekend of the OUA season the Brock Badgers baseball team picked up two series splits in back-to-back doubleheaders with the McMaster Marauders and Laurier Golden Hawks this past weekend.
GAME 1: Brock 10 McMaster 2
Scoring six runs between the second and third innings, the Badgers opened the weekend quickly led by two doubles and a triple from
Reid Lunney who finished the day 3-for-4 with six RBI, one run, and one walk. Dan Howat earned the win, pitching six scoreless innings, conceding just three hits and three walks, while striking out three.
GAME 2: McMaster 14 Brock 4
The Marauders bounced back in the second game on Saturday, stifling the Badgers offense to just four hits.
Joseph Vetrone and
Bryn Sanford scored the only RBI's of the game for Brock, with Vetrone registering two and Sanford one.
GAME 1: Laurier 11 Brock 1
Traveling to Waterloo on Sunday, Brock was slow out of the gates as a six run sixth inning from Laurier secured the win for the home team.
David Polson was the lone Badgers player to cross the plate in the opening game of the doubleheader.
GAME 2: Brock 18 Laurier 5
The bats came to life to finish the weekend as Brock registered five extra-base hits, including three home runs. Lunney added to his weekend totals going 3-for-5 with a home run, one RBI, and three runs. Meanwhile,
Ben Grant cleared the fence twice, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, one walk, four RBI, and three runs.
The OUA season continues for the Badgers next weekend with another pair of doubleheaders. Brock first will travel to face the Western Mustangs on Saturday, Sept. 24 with first pitch scheduled for 12 and 3 p.m. Afterwards, both the Badgers and Mustangs will return to St. Catharines to complete a four game series on Sunday, Sept. 25. with times of 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
