Badgers face off with Lancers in Port Colborne

The Brock men's hockey team returned to the ice for the first time this season on Sunday, Sept. 18 as they hosted the Windsor Lancers during a community exhibition game at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre in Port Colborne.

It's the second consecutive season Brock has hosted Windsor in an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) pre-season game at the Vale Centre.

"Port Colborne has a rich hockey history and we are humbled for the opportunity to play at the Vale Centre," said head coach TJ Manastersky. "I want to thank Mayor Bill Steele and the City of Port Colborne for putting on an exceptional event."

The Lancers prevailed 2-1 as Max Melancon netted a lone power-play goal for the Badgers. Matthew Riva and Christian Girhiny each registered an assist.

Goaltenders Mario Peccia and Aidan Hughes split time in the crease for Brock.

For Windsor, Matt Dorsey and Anthony Stefano each scored a goal.

Admission to the game was free and non-perishable food items were collected in support of Port Cares, which aims to improve the quality of life of those in the Port Colborne community with social and economic needs.

Up next, the Badgers host an all-star team from the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) at Canada Games Park on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. before facing off against the Guelph Gryphons in the 22nd Steel Blade Classic at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. | TICKETS
