ST. CATHARINES - Once again welcoming competitors to the Eleanor Misener Aquatic Centre, the Brock Badgers men's and women's swimming teams challenged the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks this past weekend in a Tri-Meet event.
Both the Brock men and women placed second overall in the three-team event. Waterloo topped the women with 788 total points, followed by the Badgers at 639 and Laurier with 110. Meanwhile, the Warriors claimed the top spot for the men as well tallying 1025.5 points, followed by Brock at 800 and the Laurier men with 326.5.
In the pool for the women, first-year standout
Jami Fuson swam a season best in the 800m freestyle placing second in a time of 9:35.53, while also picking up a third place finish in the 200m individual medley.
Noemie Ringuette also set a new personal best when she took first place in the 100m backstroke posting a time of 1:10.15. Further podium results were achieved by McKenna Clark who finished second in the 100m freestyle and third in the 200m freestyle,
Paige Moore who reached the top step on the 200m breaststroke, and
Megan O'Connell who finished second in the 100m individual medley.
The men were ignited by a stellar performance from second-year freestyler
Landon Daschuk who notched his first sub-two minute 200m freestyle, taking home first place in the event. Daschuk was joined on the podium in the 200m freestyle event by teammates Chris Ball and
Evan Karlov to complete the event sweep for the Badgers. Other event winners in the men's competition included Ball in the 100m freestyle, and
Julien Legault in the 50m backstroke.
Next the Badgers will make their way to London from Feb. 9-11 as they compete in the OUA Championships hosted this year by Western University.
