The Brock Badgers baseball team split their Sunday doubleheader with the Guelph Gryphons by scores of 2-8 and 2-0 at David E. Hastings Stadium in Guelph, Ont.
Game 1: Brock 2 Guelph 8
Brock took a first game loss to the Gryphons by a score of 8-2.
The Gryphons struck early, scoring two in the bottom half of the first.
Three run innings in the fourth and fifth gave Guelph an 8-0 advantage.
Brock ended up adding two runs in the sixth.
First baseman Cole Carpenter finished with two hits, while outfielder Flynn Matheson had one.
Starting pitcher Jack Tiessen pitched three innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs, while striking out three. Dante Cifala finished with one inning of work, giving up two hits, three earned runs and two walks. Tim Sommerville gave up three earned runs, three hits and one walk in 0.1 innings pitched, while Kiva Salzman pitched the final 1.2 innings and struck out one batter.
Game 2: Brock 2 Guelph 0
The Badgers rebounded in a big way, shutting out the Gryphons off the back of a strong pitching performance by Evan Marks.
Both teams were held scoreless through five innings of play.
In the top of the sixth, the Badgers scored two runs, which would end up being the only two of the game.
The win helps savage the weekend and improves the Badgers record to 4-4.
Up next, the Badgers (4-4) are back at home to host the York Lions on Sunday Sept. 24 at George Taylor Field at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
