On Saturday, Jan. 20 and Sunday, Jan. 21, the men's curling team hosted the Brock Invitational at the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club.
The Badgers finished 2-2 in their final preparations before the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Men's Curling Championship.
In their first contest on Saturday, Brock fell to the TMU Bold 8-5. After being down 5-4 after five ends of play, the Bold scored four unanswered points to take the match.
The Badgers then dropped another tight contest, suffering a 7-6 defeat at the hands of the McMaster Marauders. The hosts fought back from being down 4-1 after four ends to take a 6-4 advantage through six. Scoring three points in the last two ends helped flip the momentum and seal the win for the Marauders.
In a rematch of last year's OUA bronze medal match, the Badgers took on the Guelph Gryphons, with the hosts besting the Gryphons 4-1 in seven ends. After giving up the first point in the first end, the Badgers controlled the match, scoring one point in four of the next six ends for the win.
Brock finished up the weekend with a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues. After trading points through the first two ends, both teams went scoreless in the next two. Toronto took a 3-2 lead after seven, but the Badgers ended the contest in style, scoring two in the final end to win it.
Up next, the Badgers look to build on last year's bronze medal success at the OUA Championship. The bonspiel will be hosted by the Guelph Gryphons at the Guelph Curling Club from Friday, Feb. 2 to Sunday, Feb. 4.
