The Brock Badgers women's squash team showed promise in their first competition of the season.
At the Jester's League Sectional No. 1, the Badgers fell in a tight 4-3 matchup to the McMaster Marauders before dropping a 7-0 decision to the host Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Toronto.

Danielle Tonna won a thrilling five-set match (11-7, 11-8, 4-11, 6-11, 11-9) over Tahlia Waite of the Marauders to earn the first point of the Badgers.
Brock scored points from an Addie Hambly 3-0 win (12-10, 11-9, 11-5) and a default from McMaster with Allison MacPhail set to compete in the No. 7 slot.
Evelyn Anzik and Julie Do both earned a set win, but it was not enough to come out victorious in their individual matchups.
Brock 0 - Toronto 7
The Varsity Blues stormed out to early 3-0 wins from Aayah Shalaby and Deena Shah and did not look back, sweeping the Badgers 7-0.
MacPhail put up a strong effort in the final match, dropping a very close five-set encounter (9-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-13, 11-9).
No. 1 singles player Rachael Liu put up a valiant effort against Shalaby by putting up close scores of seven and nine in the second and third sets, respectively.
