The Brock Badgers women's rowing team is coming back with some well-earned hardware.
Both competing women's boats medalled at the 2024 Canadian University Rowing Championships that took place on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3 at Elk Lake in Victoria, BC.
"Our small and mighty women's program had done an excellent job committing our team performance goals throughout the season," said women's coach Mary Rao. "It has been really wonderful working with such fiercely dedicated athletes. These results are a product of their year round dedication to training at the highest level; both as a group and individually."
The first medal went to Jalyn Mowry who earned a bronze in the women's single after finishing in a time of seven minutes, 36 seconds and 32 milliseconds.
In the women's lightweight double race, Zoe and Isabella Durcak placed first with a time of 7:14.87, finishing just over four seconds ahead of the second-place Victoria Vikes.
The Stoney Creek duo are now two-time champions in the event, having won gold last year in a time of 7:38.87.
In their second event of the national competition, the Durcaks placed fourth in the women's pair as they trailed the third-place Mustangs by a mere 1.08 seconds.
Overall, the Badgers women placed seventh out of 21 teams, ending with 40 points and just six points off the sixth-place Toronto Varsity Blues.
Rao is excited for the future of this women's rowing program and the strides it is taking.
"We are very proud of our results, and I look forward to continuing the momentum we have built this season with the women's team. We're excited to integrating our deveolping athletes as we transition to winter training."
