The Brock Badgers baseball team were defeated by the Guelph Gryphons in both games of their home opener doubleheader.Â
Guelph took the first game 9-2 and followed it up with a 10-3 victory on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at George Taylor Field.
Game 1 Brock 2 – Guelph 9Â
Ashton Feijo and Nolan Phelan both recorded a run batted in (RBI) each for Brock in the Game 1Â loss to Guelph.Â
Guelph spread out their nine runs scored, earning at least a run in six of the seven innings played. Â
Flynn Matheson recorded two singles in the contest for the Badgers. Â
Jack Tiessen took to the mound to begin the game for Brock throwing three and one-third (3.1) innings, walking four and striking out three batters. Â
Guelph and Brock shared an error each in the contest. Â
The Gryphons led with nine hits to the Badgers' seven. Â
Game 2 Brock 3 – Guelph 10 Â
Brock's Cole Carpenter registered a hit and RBI in the Badger's second loss of the day.Â
The Gryphons piled on the score early scoring nine runs by the third inning. Â
Dante Cifala got the nod for the Badgers, starting the contest and going 2.1 innings. The fourth-year pitcher gave up three earned runs, striking out four batters. Â
Guelph committed four errors in the win with Brock recording three errors of their own.Â
Feijo and Ethan Pasco also recorded one hit each for the Badgers. Â
Next, the Brock Badgers baseball team will host the Windsor Lancers at George Taylor Field for a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 14. Game 1 will start at noon and Game 2 will start at 3 p.m. or at the conclusion of the first contest.  Â
