The Brock Badgers men's rowing team got out to a strong start in its first regatta of the season.
On Saturday, Sept. 21 at Fanshawe Lake in London, the Badgers came away with five first-place finishes and six additional podium finishes.
Connor Dodds teamed up with Charles-Etienne Tabet, the 2023 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Men's Rower of the Year, for a first-place result in the men's lightweight double, finishing in a time of six minutes, 47 seconds and eight milliseconds.
Dodds and Tabet also picked up a gold in the men's lightweight four, partnering with Archer LaRochelle, Riley Watson and coxswain Daniel Phillips (6:40.3).
The Badgers saw success in individual races as well as Stephen Harris (7:15.9) won the men's lightweight single and Keithan Woodhouse took home gold in the men's single (7:26.6).
The final gold medal of the day was won by the men's lightweight eight crew (Sawyer Dalton, Ethan Mason, Arden White, Benjamin Molnar, Jonas Masys, Sam Parlatore, Luca Hardy, Christian Moise, coxswain: Daniel Phillips) who crossed the finish line in 6:17.0.
Narrowly missing out on gold medals were four boats who placed second. Maddox Harrison and Chris Gomez got the day started with a silver in the men's pair (no time listed) and the men's lightweight pair of Arden White and Sam Parlatore finished in a time of 8:24.4.
The men's lightweight four (Jonas Masys, Ethan Mason, Luca Hardy, Christian Moise, coxswain: Alyssa Gray) and the men's eight (Maddox Harrison, Christopher Gomez, Stephen Harris, Keithan Woodhouse, Ian Doctor, Trevor Andrews, Lucas Fogh, Euan Coulson, coxswain: Serafina Dell) earned times of 7:02.2 and 6:03.8, respectively.
Rounding out the podium placements for the Badgers in third place were Dalton and Molnar in the men's pair (no time listed), Ian Doctor in the men's single (7:41.4) and Lucas Fogh, Trevor Andrews, Elijah Lopez, Colson and coxswain Dell in the men's four (6:47.6)
Up next, the Badgers hope to continue their momentum as they head to the Head of the Trent in Peterborough on Saturday, Oct. 5.
