Badgers capture impressive win over Toronto

The Brock Badgers women's lacrosse team put another win on the board this past weekend. 

In their opening match on Sunday, Sept. 22, an excellent fourth quarter saw Brock beat Toronto 12-10 in Oshawa.

The Badgers fell to the Queen's Gaels in their second match of the day. 

Game 1: Brock 12 - Toronto 10

Four goals in the final quarter of play against Toronto were the difference as Brock earned its second win of the season. 

The win marked the Badgers' first against the Varsity Blues since Oct. 21, 2016. 

Abby Holliday had an impressive offensive display in the victory, scoring five goals against Toronto. 

Also on the scoresheet for the Badgers were Gabby Winters and Aisha Hoover, who each had two goals. Rachel Woods and Olivia Dion scored a goal each for Brock.

The Badgers scored first in the contest through Holliday but it was Toronto who had a 6-5 lead at the halfway mark of the contest. 

With just a second on the clock in the third quarter, Winters equalized for Brock with the score now reading 8-8 heading into the final quarter of play. 

Brock struck first in the fourth quarter and maintained that lead for the remainder of the game, eventually pushing their lead up to two goals. 

Alyssa Worth was in goal for the Badgers in the win. 

Game 2: Brock 2 - Queen's 18

The Badgers were defeated by the Queen's Gaels in their second match of the day in Oshawa.

Winters and Worth both scored for Brock in the loss. 

Queen's held a 6-1 advantage after two quarters played before scoring 12 goals in the second half. 

Mielle McKnight was the Badgers' goalie in the game.

Next, the Brock Badgers women's lacrosse team will host the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at Alumni Field for their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. Last season, the Badgers beat the Ridgebacks 14-12 in Hamilton on Oct. 14, 2023.
