The Brock Badgers came out on top with a nail-biting 2-1 victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves at Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ont. Fifth-year forward Nicholas Domitrovic scored his first OUA goal while Alexis Cournoyer was the hero of the day, scoring the game-winning goal. Second-year goaltender Ben Bonisteel turned aside 41 shots to record his first OUA victory between the pipes. The Badgers wasted no time finding the back of the net as Domitrovic opened the scoring at 16:56 of the first period.  No additional goals were scored in the first frame, leaving Brock with a 1-0 lead. The Thunderwolves responded midway through the second  to tie the game. With just four seconds remaining in regulation, Cournoyer sealed the win for the Badgers off a rebound in front of the net. Brock was outshot 42-34 but held off Lakehead's pressure all game to secure their first win of the campaign.

Friday, Oct. 10 L 5-2 at Lakehead Thunderwolves | Box Score

In a rematch the next day, the Badgers were not able to best the Lakehead Thunderwolves as the hosts skated away with a 5-2 victory. Braeden Lewis and Jordan Stock each scored a goal for the Badgers in the loss. The Thunderwolves took advantage of a power-play opportunity in the first period to take the lead. Stock's equalizing goal just before the first period buzzer provided the Badgers a spark heading into the intermission break. Despite this momentum, it was the host Thunderwolves that scored the next four goals spanning the second and third periods. This included two more on the power play which gave them three goals with the man advantage on the day. Lewis put one in with 1:30 left in the contest to add one more for the Badgers. Lakehead delivered 35 shots on net, while Brock notched 26 of their own.

Up next, the Badgers look to continue their regular-season push on the road against the Waterloo Warriors at CIF Arena in Waterloo, Ont., on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Continuing on their road trip in Waterloo, Ont., Brock is set for a 5 p.m. contest against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday, Oct. 19 at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.

Women's Hockey
Friday, Oct. 10 L 4-1 vs. Laurier Golden Hawks | Box Score

The Brock Badgers fell 4-1 to the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Canada Games Park on Friday night in their home opener. Marin Green scored Brock's lone goal of the game, while Megan Thiessen made 36 saves as the starting goaltender. Laurier scored two quick goals near the end of the first period and carried that momentum into the second, adding another. The Badgers responded just one minute later as Green scored the team's first goal of the season. That would be all for Brock as Laurier extended their lead once more in the third frame. The visitors controlled the shot department, putting 40 shots on net to just 19 from the Badgers.

Saturday, Oct. 11 W 3-1 vs. Ontario Tech Ridgebacks | Box Score

The Brock Badgers women's hockey team earned a bounce-back 3-1 win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday night at Canada Games Park. Ellie French scored her first career OUA goal while Allison Moore added two of her own. French got the scoring started for the Badgers after a loose puck in front of the net found its way onto her stick. The Ridgebacks evened the score minutes later. Toward the end of the first period, Moore helped put the Badgers up 2-1 after her shot was bobbled and found its way through the Ridgebacks' goalie. After a scoreless second period, Moore's slap shot put the Badgers up 3-1 early into the third period. The Badgers held the advantage in the shot battle, winning that category 31-19.

Up next, the Badgers will travel to London, Ont., and Thompson Arena to take on the Western Mustangs on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. The next night on Saturday, Oct. 18, they are set for a matchup with the Windsor Lancers at 7:30 p.m. at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex in Windsor, Ont.
