Brock men’s rugby standout earns national team camp invite, Rugby Ontario Player of the Year honours

Rising rugby star Koen Schroeder continues to make his mark.

In less than two weeks, Schroeder was selected to join Rugby Canada's National Senior Men's Sevens Team for a training camp and was named Rugby Ontario's Senior Male Provincial Player of the Year.

"Being selected to travel out to B.C to have an opportunity to play for the Canadian national sevens team has always been a dream of mine and now that I finally have an opportunity it's amazing," Schroeder said. "Being chosen as Senior Provincial Player of the Year is an incredible achievement for myself. I'm incredibly thankful for all my coaches who have helped me along the way and my parents, who have put in countless supporting me in my pursuit of rugby."

The training camp will take place in Langford, B.C., from Nov. 5-15, and is in preparation for the Rugby America's North (RAN) tournament in Trinidad & Tobago, which runs from Nov. 16-24.

This past summer, Schroeder represented Team Ontario at three tournaments, which was highlighted by a 17-12 victory over Team British Columbia in the 2025 Canada Summer Games final in St. John's, N.L.

In that final, Schroeder scored the game-winning try, helping make history as Team Ontario were the winners of the inaugural men's rugby sevens event at the Canada Summer Games.

"Koen's recognition from Rugby Ontario as well as his invitation to the National Senior Men's Sevens camp is a testament to not only his talent, but more importantly the hard work he puts into daily improvement," said Brock men's head coach Sean Medeiros. "Koen has lofty goals, and this is a significant first step towards achieving them. We are proud of him and excited to support him."

With these accolades, Schroeder has firmly marked himself as a rugby talent to watch across the provincial and national stage.
