Badgers Weekly Wrap: Sept. 29 - Oct. 5, 2025

The Brock Badgers hosted Senior Games for women's rugby, men's soccer, and women's soccer this past weekend as they enjoyed another packed week of Ontario University Athletics (OUA) competition.

Thursday, Oct. 2: L 5-1 vs. Toronto Varsity Blues | Box Score

The Brock Badgers skated into a challenging battle, falling 5-1 to the Toronto Varsity Blues at Canada Games Park. Fourth-year forward Jordan Stock scored the lone goal for the Badgers, while Nathan Drapeau, a first-year defenceman, recorded his first OUA assist on the goal. The Varsity Blues opened the scoring at 3:52 into the contest. Stock tied the game for the Badgers at the 6:43 mark, but the Varsity Blues regained the lead on a power-play marker, closing up the opening frame. After a scoreless second period, the Varsity Blues managed to add three more goals to extend their lead in the third, closing out the game. Despite the final score, the Badgers outshot the Varsity Blues 32-24 and generated four power-play opportunities.

Up next, the Badgers look to regroup when they face off against the Lakehead Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay, Ont., on Thurs, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.

Men's Rowing
Saturday, Oct. 4 at Head of the Trent

10 podium finishes represented another strong weekend of competition for the Brock Badgers men's rowing team. Joe Coughler and Euan Coulson each captured gold in their individual races, while Coulson also placed first with Connor Dodds in the men's university lightweight double.

Women's Rowing
Saturday, Oct. 4 at Head of the Trent

The Badgers women's rowing team continued their regatta schedule with an appearance at the Head of the Trent in Peterborough, Ont. A first-place finish in the mixed university inclusion double highlighted their six podium results at the event.

Men's Rugby
Friday, Oct. 3: L 22-21 at McMaster Marauders

It was a nail-biting road contest for the Badgers as they fell 22-21 to the host McMaster Marauders at Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton, Ont. Luke Bagshaw kicked three converts to finish with six points, while Grant Meadows, Sam Morreale and Thomas O'Grady each scored one try. Although the Marauders scored first, it was the Badgers who held the lead 14-8 at halftime, scoring two tries and two successful converts. Brock's lead expanded to as large as 21-8 in the second half before McMaster notched 14 unanswered points to end the game. 

Up next, the Badgers have a bye week before they go to Toronto for the last regular season game against the York Lions on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.

Women's Rugby
Friday, Oct. 3: W 60-28 vs. York Lions

The Brock Badgers bested the York Lions 60-28 at Alumni Field on Friday during Senior Night. All of the Badgers' players contributed to the win, with eight different players each scoring a try. Standout performances came from Taylor Pate and Brooke Rempel who each scored two tries as well as Paige DeNeve who added one try and five conversions for a total of 15 points. Brock came out dominant from the opening whistle, scoring eight tries to take a commanding 46-0 lead by halftime. They continued their strong play in the second half, extending the lead to 60-0 by the 55th minute. The Lions managed to respond with a few tries of their own before the final whistle, bringing the final score to 60-28.

This was the final regular season game for Brock. They now look ahead to the OUA playoffs as they will compete in an OUA quarterfinal matchup on the road in London, Ont., against the Western Mustangs on Saturday, Oct. 11. The time of the matchup is still to be determined.

Men's Soccer
Friday, Oct. 3: L 3-0 at York Lions | Box Score

The Badgers battled hard in Toronto on Friday night at York Lions Stadium, but ultimately fell to the No. 3 ranked York Lions 3-0. Anthony Morano opened the scoring for York in the 22nd minute, and Brock was unable to overcome the early deficit. Both teams were assessed three yellow cards and Brock was assessed an additional red card. The Badgers were outshot 11-2 in the match and 7-1 in shots on target.

Sunday, Oct. 5: L 1-0 vs. York Lions | Box Score

The Badgers were gritty, but could not overcome the No. 3 York Lions in their rematch on Sunday, Oct. 5 at Alumni Field, dropping a 1-0 decision in their Senior Game. First-year goalkeeper Nikola Neskovic was impressive, making four saves to keep Brock in the game. Christian Zeppieri of the Lions scored in the 24th minute, and the Badgers were held off the scoresheet for the remainder of the match. The shot total was 5-3 in favour of York; all of which were on target. 

Up next, the Badgers host the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 8:15 p.m. for a pivotal showdown at Alumni Field, before travelling to Hamilton, Ont., to face the Marauders once again on Saturday, Oct 11 at 8:15 p.m.

Women's Soccer
Friday, Oct. 3: T 1-1 at York Lions | Box Score

After a bye week, the Brock Badgers clawed back to earn a 1-1 draw on the road against the York Lions. Lexie Foster recorded a goal for the Badgers, while second-year goalkeeper Emi Foster made nine saves in the contest in her first start of the year. The scoring was opened in the 40th minute after the Lions' Kyra Nasseri found the back of the net off a shot from outside the box. After a slow start to the second half, a Maleah Pinkston throw-in found its way into the possession of Foster, who was able to convert on a long-distance strike to even the score in the 85th minute. The Badgers held strong in net, winning the save battle 9-2, while the corner kick tally remained even with each team earning one. 

Sunday, Oct. 5: L 1-0 vs. York Lions | Box Score

The Badgers returned home to Alumni Field for a rematch against the York Lions on Senior Day, dropping the contest 1-0. Foster got the start again and made two saves in the match. The lone goal came from the Lions' Brook-Lyn Mitchell in the 20th minute. The Badgers battled hard in the second half, tallying five shots on target to the Lions' zero. Brock held the shot advantage 6-3 while also matching York's discipline with both teams receiving seven yellow cards. 

Up next, the Badgers will host the McMaster Marauders at Alumni Field on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. They then travel to Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton, Ont., for a rematch against the Marauders on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 4: W 3-0 vs. McMaster Marauders (OUA West Regional Qualifiers Semifinal), W 6-1 at Guelph Gryphons (OUA West Regional Qualifier Final)

The Brock Badgers baseball team won the OUA West Regional Qualifier after defeating the McMaster Marauders 3-0 in the semifinal, which was followed by a 6-1 win over the Guelph Gryphons in the final. Ryan Facchini and Charlie Hughes each had dominant games on the mound in the final and semifinal, respectively, while Cole Carpenter and Flynn Matheson each drove in two runs in the final.
