The Brock Badgers men's track and field team set a new modern era program milestone with three medals at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships.
As a team, the Badgers matched their finish from 2024 as they placed seventh out of 13 teams at the annual provincial competition.
The 2025 edition took place at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse at the University of Windsor from Friday, Feb. 21 to Saturday, Feb 22.
With 156.5 points, the Guelph Gryphons took home first with 156.5 points while last year's gold medallist Western Mustangs were second with 139.0. The host Windsor Lancers placed third (112.0).
"From the first day of practice in September, the focus was always for the athletes to peak in February for the OUA Championships and the U SPORTS Championships," said head coach Jonathan Younker. " Every practice, we would list out the number of days remaining until the OUA championships and the days until the U SPORTS championships. That focus and dedication, along with the hard work put in by these student-athletes and the guidance from the team's event coaches, has yielded our mens team's first three-medal haul at an OUA Championships."
Winning a gold medal for the second year in a row, Michael Ivanov bested all challengers in the pole vault, delivering a commanding performance.
Ivanov completed a successful attempt of 5-metres to claim first which puts him above the U SPORTS standard. His previous best attempt was 5.11m which he achieved at the Don Wright Team Challenge earlier in January.
After his jump of 5.00 m, the local Niagara Falls product attempted a university personal-best mark of 5.15m but was unsuccessful in three tries.
Joining Ivanov on the podium was Rémi Ouellette and Keshawn Igbinosun.
Ouellette competed in the men's shot put F41 ambulatory event and delivered a throw of 8.19m to claim Brock's second gold medal of the competition and first ever for the program in this event.
Rémi Ouellette won a gold medal in the shot put F41 ambulatory event at the 2025 OUA Championships.
In the 600m race, Igbinosun placed third with a personal-best time of one minute, 20 seconds and 62 milliseconds, finishing just one millisecond ahead of Windsor's Noah Waldmann.
He also placed seventh in the 300m race, crossing the finish line in a time of 35.17.
Keshawn Igbinosun earned a bronze medal in the 600m race at the 2025 OUA Championships in Windsor.
Staying on the track, Colton Spencer ran the 60m hurdles event in 8.16 to place sixth. In the preliminary race, he had a fifth place result (8.13).
The Badgers saw a ninth-place showing in the 1000m event from Christian Ligtenberg who finished in 2:30.49.
The top relay team for the Badgers was the 4x200m group of Igbinosun, Jason Friesen, Jake Peters and Ayden Tessier who placed seventh (1:32.00).
On the field, Bolu Olatifede finished 11th out of 21 competitors in the men's long jump (6.75m).
The next competition for those who have qualified is the U SPORTS Championships at this same location, the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse in Windsor, from Thursday, March 6 to Saturday, March 8.
