Friesen captures bronze at Junior Pan-American Games

Brock University women's wrestling star Mia Friesen is adding to her medal collection after winning bronze at the 2025 Junior Pan-American Games.

"It's always an honour to be able to compete for Canada especially at such a unique event like the Junior Pan-Am Games," Friesen said.  "I am proud to be back competing and happy that I was able to bring a medal home."

The women's freestyle competition took place Thursday, Aug. 21 with the full wrestling event occurring from Friday, Aug. 20 to Saturday, Aug. 22 in Asunción, Paraguay.

In the bronze medal match, the Social Sciences major defeated Jessymar Torres of Venezuela by superiority 12-2 to place third in the 57-kilogram category.

Friesen started the competition by besting Panama's Jeanice Mejia in the quarterfinal by superiority 11-0.

A close 4-1 defeat followed in the semifinal match to Bertha Rojas of Mexico who is the under-23 world silver medallist.

Friesen and the Badgers women's wrestling team are coming off a national and provincial title in 2024-25 and are hungry to repeat that success this coming season.
