Box Score ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - In their OUA opener on Friday night, Brock's women's basketball team proved why they are the #7 team in the country, by defeating the Ryerson Rams 79-41.
Samantha De Jong had four points early in the first quarter, leading the charge for the Badgers, who began the game on an 8-0 run. De Jong wound up with 21 points and five rebounds, shooting 8-13 from the field.
Brock held a 17-11 edge after the first, and extended their lead with 16 points in the second quarter. At the half, the Badgers were up 33-22.
The second half was all Brock, as the Badgers outscored Ryerson 27-3 in the third, and 19-16 in the fourth.
Nicole Rosenkranz, the reigning OUA West MVP, had a team-high 10 rebounds, and contributed 12 points to the winning effort. Off of the bench,
Dayna Howlett was 4-9 with a pair of three-point field goals. The Rams were held to a 31.4% field goal percentage, while Brock shot 46.2%.
Brock's next action is Saturday night at the Bob Davis Gym, where they will look to improve to 2-0 against the Toronto Varsity Blues.Â
