Brock women's basketball drops 69-66 decision to Mustangs

LONDON, Ont. – The Brock Badgers women's basketball team lost their second straight game on Wednesday night, falling 69-66 to the Western Mustangs.

Heading into the game, both Western and Brock were honourable mention teams in the CIS Top Ten, marking the first time all season that Brock was not nationally ranked. With the loss, the Badgers fall to 5-3 on the campaign.

Reigning OUA All-Star Jenny Vaughan dropped 25 points on the Badgers, while adding three assists, to power Western's offense. Brock's Andrea Polischuk had 15 points in the first half to lead both sides, but struggled in the final two quarters, contributing only four points down the stretch for a game total of 19.

Western got out to a 20-14 lead after one quarter, before Brock stormed back with 18 second quarter points, to cut the deficit to 35-32 at the half.

The Badgers took the lead in the 3rd capitalizing on strong performances from Nicole Rosenkranz and Jenna Yumol, who each reached double figures in points during second half play. Rosenkranz finished the game with 16 points, 10 of which came after halftime, and Yumol scored all 12 of her points in the last two quarters.

In the final frame, Western managed to outscore Brock 24-19, to pick up the three-point victory on their home court.

Brock was without Samantha De Jong, who has averaged 10.1 PPG and 6.5 RPG this season, in addition to Katie Harpur who missed her fifth straight game with an injury.

The Mustangs shot 38.3% from the field, while Brock was 24-57 (42.1%). Where Western edged out the Badgers was at the free-throw line, as they missed only two of 16 attempts, compared to Brock who went 14-20 from the charity stripe.

Brock closes out the pre-holiday schedule on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Davis Gym, where they'll host the Waterloo Warriors at 1:00 PM.
