TORONTO, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (8-10-1 OUA) continued to roll Thursday night on the road as they defeated the Ryerson Rams 3-2 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
With their sixth straight victory, the Badgers now move one point out of a playoff spot with five regular season games remaining.
Ryerson opened the scoring 4:49 into the opening period as Melissa Wronzberg setup Victoria Arci for her first goal of the season.
Just over a minute later, Brock tied the game 1-1 when freshman
Erin McColm (Peterborough, Ont.) setup freshman
Brittany Gillmor (St George Brant, Ont.) who beat Ryerson starter Emma Crawley for her fourth goal of the campaign.
With six minutes left in the second period, senior
Brianne Veale (Sault Ste Marie, Ont.) gave the Badgers a 2-1 lead with a powerplay marker. Juniors
Ally Graham (Thamesford, Ont.) and
Laura Neu (Ayr, Ont.) added the assists. For Graham, it was her 12th assist of the season, tying former Badger Stephanie Allen (2000-01) for second in the record books for single season assists by a Brock defenseman.
At 8:35 of the third period, Brock would take a two goal lead, as senior
Leigh Vanderveen (NOTL, Ont.) setup Veale for her second goal of the game.
Late in the third period, Ryerson would cut the lead to one, 3-2. Stephanie Chiste and Arci setup Wronzberg for her 7th goal of the season.
In goal Brock freshman
Jenna Sosnoski (New Dundee, Ont.) registered 25 saves for her 8th victory of the season. With the win, Sosnoski moves into a tie for third all-time in Brock career victories with Sara Kirchner (2007-09). Ryerson's Crawley added 37 saves in the loss.
The Badgers next action is Saturday, January 25th at 4pm when they take on the Toronto Varsity Blues at Varsity Arena.
