Brock women's basketball drops 62-57 decision to Laurier in OUA Quarter-Finals

The Brock University women's basketball team (21-15 overall) had their season come to an end Wednesday night on the road as they dropped a 62-57 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks in the OUA Quarter-Finals.

After trailing 12-10 late in the first quarter, the Badgers closed out the final three minutes with a 9-0 run to take a 19-12 lead after 10 minutes. Brock led 26-21 midway through the second quarter, before the host Golden Hawks put together a 7-2 run tying the game 28-28 at the half.

In the opening minute of the third, Laurier took a 32-29 lead, but it was the Badgers answering with a 12-0 run to take a 41-32 lead with 4:16 remaining in the quarter. The Golden Hawks cut the Badgers lead to four trailing 48-44 after 30 minutes.

Brock would hold their lead until the 6:59 mark of the fourth as Laurier tied the game 52-52. The Golden Hawks went up 58-54, but Brock would bring it within two, 58-56, with 42 second remaining in regulation. Jenalyn Yumol (London, Ont.) would then have a chance to tie it at the line with 20 seconds remaining but would miss the second free throw making it 58-57. Laurier closed out the game with four straight free throws to advance to the OUA West semi-finals.

Leading the Badgers was senior Nicole Rosenkranz (Niagara Falls, Ont.) who finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. She finishes her Brock career with 1444 points (8th all-time) and 854 career rebounds (3rd all-time) in three seasons. Senior Samantha De Jong (St. Catharines, Ont.) ended her university career with 14 points and four rebounds. Junior Kayla Santilli (Brantford, Ont.) chipped in with nine points in the loss.

Laurier had four players in double figures led by Lee Anna Osei who recorded the double-double adding 12 points and 11 boards. Whitney Ellenor and Kimberley Yeldon both contributed with 12 points each while Samantha Jacobs added 10 points to round out the Golden Hawks leaders.
