Brock men's lacrosse improves to 3-0 with victory against Guelph

2212ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team (3-0 CUFLA) stays undefeated with a win Saturday afternoon, against the Guelph Gryphons, with a 14-11 win at home in front of 365 fans in attendance. 

Brock opened the scoring under a minute into the frame, putting pressure on the Gryphons defence early on. Brock would hold much of the possession for the first ten minutes, before both teams traded goals for the remainder of the quarter. The score remained tied 3-3 heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the Badgers came out strong, scoring five straight goals. Brock goalkeeper, Ryan Jones, remained solid between the pipes for the majority of the first half; keeping the Guelph offence to just seven tally's. At half-time the Badgers led 9-7.  In the opening three minutes of the third quarter, the Gryphons would tie the game 9-9, before Brock answered with five straight goals to take a 14-9 lead midway through the fourth quarter. 

Badger scoring came from nine different players. Leading the Badgers attack was Kyle Davis who recorded four points adding three goals and one helper. Mark Debrone (3G) and Brandon Slade (1G, 2A) chipped in with three points each. Rounding out Brock's scoring were Mark Vradenburg (2G), Drew Barfoot (1G, 1A), Mitch Robertson (1G), Gage Board (1G), Nico Beaudoin (1G), and Greg Davidson (1G).

Leading the Gryphons scoring, was Curtis Knight who finished with three goals and three assists to lead all scorers.

In goal, Jones turned aside 16 of 27 shots he faced for his third victory of the season. Guelph starter Michael Lalani collected 15 saves in the loss. 

The Badgers return to action Saturday September 20th at 3pm when they host divisional rival, Western Mustangs, as part of the 2014 Brock Homecoming festivities.
