The Brock men's lacrosse team will be carrying over major momentum into next week.
On Thursday, Oct. 30, the No. 3 West seed Badgers earned a triumphant 15-5 victory in their Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA) Round 1 matchup over the No. 4 West seed Laurier Golden Hawks at Alumni Field.
"I'm going to give it to Laurier, they put in a good effort tonight," said head coach Vince Longboat. "[But] my guys, they're on a hot streak right now, and I kind of thought it went as it should. The way we're playing right now, we're just on a different level than when we started the year which is nice to see."
This was the second matchup between these two teams at Alumni Field this year, with the previous contest on Sept. 7, going in favour of Brock 13-7.
Jack Parker scored five times and Guerin Jennings added four more for the Badgers, while Colton Armitage earned two of his own. Jaden Patterson, James Roedde, Jackson Shabot and Noah Simonelli all found the back of the net as well, making tonight a complete team win.
The first quarter saw both teams locked in a tight contest, with Brock getting out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from Jennings, but Laurier answered shortly after to knot the game up at one. Armitage buried his first of the game with just a minute and a half to go in the quarter to put the Badgers up 2-1 after 15 minutes of play.
Laurier brought the score back to even in the second, but Brock followed it up with five unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead into halftime.
The Badgers kept their foot on the gas in the second half, adding eight more goals and only allowing three.
Rolling into the Baggataway Cup on a high note, the Badgers are clicking at just the right time as they ride a three-game win streak. The tournament, celebrating its 40th season, will begin on Friday, Nov. 7, with the first game starting at 4 p.m. and will wrap up with the championship game beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9. The action will take place at Terry Fox Stadium in Brampton, Ont. Stay tuned to gobadgers.ca for information when it becomes available on the Badgers' first game of the tournament.
