
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team improved to 7-2 in the CUFLA West Division as they came from behind to defeat the Guelph Gryphons by the score of 11-10 Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Badgers led 4-2 after 20 minutes and 8-5 at the half.
In the third quarter, it was all Guelph, as the Gryphons scored five unanswered goals to take a 10-8 lead going in the final quarter.
To add to it, Brock's
Nicholas Beaudoin (Welland, Ont.) was called for an illegal stick and three minute penalty to start the fourth quarter, despite being checked every single game this season as the top faceoff guy in the league.
The Badgers killed off the three minute Gryphons power play and finally answered after a 41 minute draught on a goal from
Davis Neal (Orangeville, Ont.) with 11:35 left in regulation. With just under 10 minutes remaining,
Matthew Bourassa Cornwall, Ont.) driilled a shot past Guelph starter Michael Lalani to tie the game 10-10.
With 6:34 remaining in regulation. Brock leading scorer
Brandon Slade (Orangeville, Ont.) made a nice move on the Guelph defender and buried home the eventual game winner.
Slade finished the day with six points adding two goals and four assists. Slade also recorded his 150th career CUFLA regular season point and now has 71G, 82A, 153 Pts in 32 career games (4.78 PPG). Neal,
Connor Ham (Newmarket, Ont.) and
Nick Karam (Whitby, Ont.) all contributed with two goals and one assist, while Bourassa,
Nicholas Rybka (Bolton, Ont.) and
Kyle Moore (Limehouse, Ont.) all added singles.
In goal, Brock rookie
Josh Wood (Welland, Ont.) registered seven saves for his fourth victory of the season . Lalani added 10 saves in the loss.
The Badgers return to action October 11th at 2pm when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at Alumni Field.
