Ricky Ferri became the Badgers all-time leader in stolen bases Saturday KINGSTON, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team took both ends of a doubleheader from the Queen's Gaels Saturday afternoon on the road. The Badgers won Game One by the score of 7-1 and took Game Two 8-5.
In Game One,
Ryan Beckett (Tiny, Ont.) threw seven complete innings allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts for the victory. In relief,
Chase Porter (Whitby, Ont.) and
Adrian Yuen (Ottawa, Ont.) threw one shutout inning each.
Offensively, the Badgers had nine hits in total with each starter adding a hit each.
Ricky Ferri (St. Catharines, Ont.) belted a two-run homerun, while
Ben Kirby (Burlington, Ont.) had single and two RBI,
Josh Wray (Burnaby, BC) added an RBI double and
Rob Byckowski (Milton, Ont.) and
Dennon Koziol (Hamilton, Ont.) both collected a hit and RBI.
In Game Two,
Brendan Ellingham (Hamilton, Ont.) pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing five runs on four hits with one strikeout and three walks for the win.
Alexander Nolan (Burlington, Ont.) threw one inning of relief giving up two hits while striking out two.
Phil Owen (Richmond, Ont.) retired the side in order for his 16th career save.
At the plate, Ferri had a career day adding two more hits, two RBI and a stolen base which moved him into first all-time in career stolen bases with 76, surpassing Steve Coates. He also moved into 5th all-time in career RBI with 116, surpassing Brock Baseball Hall of Famer Matt Stezycki.
Jordan Grant contributed with two hits, including a double and two RBI.
Phil Steer (Toronto, Ont.),
Taylor McVey (Milton, Ont.) both added two hits each, while Koziol added an RBI single to round out the Brock leaders.
The Badgers are in action again on Sunday when they travel to London to take on the Western Mustangs.
