
FREDERICTON, NB - The Brock University women's wrestling team captured both the Junior and Senior team titles at the 2016 Wrestling Canada National Championships held in Fredericton.
This was the first time in the program's history that the Badgers won both the Junior and Senior women's team titles.
"This was a great accomplishment for our wrestling program," said head coach
Marty Calder. "We have a tremendous group of talented young student-athletes that continue to get better each day in the wrestling room. All our athletes worked tremendously hard throughout this season and our overall team success shows."
At the Junior Nationals,
Kristina Mclaren capped off a great 2015-16 season winning gold at 51kg.
Farrantina Gatta took home bronze at 51kg while
Kelsey Hall (55kg) and
Emily Schaefer (59kg) both finished fourth overall.
At the Senior Nationals,
Indira Moores captured her second consecutive national title at 60kg.
Jade Parsons (53kg), Schaefer (60kg),
Jessica Brouillette (63kg) and
Olivia Di Bacco (69kg) all took home silver. In her senior debut, Mclaren placed sixth at 53kg.
For the Brock men,
Jevon Balfour captured his second straight Senior National title at 74kg defeating Jasmit Phuulka (Burnaby Mountain WC) 3-2 in the gold medal match. Balfour caps off the 2015-16 season winning six tournament titles, highlighted by the OUA, CIS and Senior Nationals. Alex Moher took home bronze at 57kg.
At the Junior Nationals,
Chris McIsaac (60kg) and
Chance Mutuku (74kg) both captured silver medals.
