LONDON, ON - The Brock University men's and women's soccer teams fell to the Western Mustangs on the road Sunday afternoon.
The women dropped a 1-0 decision while the men lost by the score of 2-0 to the Mustangs. The Brock women are now 0-2 to start the OUA regular season. The men are 0-1-1 after week one of OUA action.
The Brock women played a great game, backed by a strong performance in goal by rookie
Marilena Spagnolo (St. Catharines, ON). Spagnolo recorded a career high nine saves in the loss.
Western's lone goal came in the 85th minute as Stefanie Di Tella setup Jenna White for her first goal of the season.
In the men's game, the Badgers and Mustangs played a scoreless opening half. Western opened the scoring in the 57th minute as Chuka Ononye beat Brock goalkeeper
Matt Zaikos (Markham, ON). In the final minute, the Mustangs Braeden Gee added an insurance marker for the 2-0 victory.
In goal, Zaikos registered five saves in the loss. Western starter Cristian Devia collected three saves for the shutout.
The Badgers next action is Saturday, September 3rd when they host the Waterloo Warriors on Alumni Field in their OUA regular season homeopener. The women play at 1pm and the men 3:15pm.
