The Brock University women's basketball team dropped a 70-61 decision to the McMaster Marauders Friday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Midway through the first quarter, Brock held an 8-7 lead, before McMaster closed out the quarter with a 14-2 run to take a 21-10 lead after one quarter. In the second quarter, the Badgers rallied back scoring the first seven points and outscoring McMaster 16-5 to tie the game 26-26 at the half.
Early in the third quarter, Brock held a 30-29 lead, before the Marauders put together a 16-2 run to go up 45-32 with two minutes left in the quarter. The Badgers closed out the quarter with three straight field goals, to make it a seven-point game, 45-38, after 30 minutes. In the fourth, Brock would cut the lead to five twice, but that was as close as they would come, dropping to 4-5 in the OUA West.
Brock had four players in double figures ked by Ana Caldeira Rua who recorded 17 points and four rebounds. Rookie Kristin Gallant contributed with 15 points and 11 rebounds and six assists for the double-double while Courtney Mcpherson also collected the double-double adding 11 points and 11 boards. Rounding out the Brock leaders was Bailie Campbell who chipped in with 10 points in the loss.
McMaster was led by Sarah Gates who registered 17 points. Jaelena Mamic and Olivia Wilson chipped in with 16 and 14 points respectively for the road victory.
As a team, Brock shot 34.8% (24-69) from the floor, 20.8% (5-24) from beyond the arc and 57.1% (8-14) from the free throw line. McMaster went 25-68 (36.8%) from the floor, 8-29 (27.6%) from long range and 12-19 (63.2%) from the charity stripe.
The Badgers return to action next weekend when they host the Ottawa GeeGees and Carleton Ravens.
