KINGSTON, ON - The Brock University men's lacrosse team defeated the Guelph Gryphons by the score of 13-11 Saturday afternoon to advance to the CUFLA Championship final Sunday.

In the first quarter the Badgers scored first on a goal from Connor Brown. From there, the two teams traded goals into the end of the first quarter. The Brock side started a little bit slow in the first but was able to take a 3-2 lead into the first break.

Coming out in the second the Gryphons showed some fit and tapped into the momentum from their intense win the evening before. Alec Simons and Michael Cavanaugh each scored a pair for Guelph in the first half and were huge in giving them a 6-5 lead at half time.

The second half was similar to the first in which both teams were trading goals back and forth. The whole game was waiting for a team to exert their will and take control of the game. Brown and Brandon Slade, similar to the first two quarters, led the Brock offense while getting contributions from Nicholas Rybka and Kurtis Woodland.

The semi final game came down to the final 4 minutes of play. With the score deadlocked at 10 one team needed to step up and the Badgers were up to the task. Rybka took the lead for the Badgers with 3 minutes left. The Gryphons countered with a goal from Mike Berger.

With the game locked at 11 and just over a minute left the Badgers had possession and looked to seal their road to the finals. With a scramble in front and pile up to the right of the Gryphons goal tender Hayden Walsh, the ball came lose in front and was hit off the ground and found the back of the net. The Badgers sealed the deal with a last second goal by Woodland.

The Badgers will take on the defending champion Western Mustangs in the Baggataway Cup Final Sunday at 1pm..
