The Brock University women's basketball team dropped an 81-58 decision to the Ryerson Rams at the Mattamy Athletic Centre Wednesday night.
Brock trailed 20-17 after the first quarter, after being down 6-0 to open the game. In the second quarter, Ryerson put together a 14-4 run to take a 34-21 lead with four minutes left in the first half. The Rams would go on another run 15-3 to take a 49-28 lead early in the third quarter. Brock outscored Ryerson 21-19 in the final quarter.
The Badgers had three players in double figures led by freshman
Kristin Gallant who recorded her second 23-point game of the season to lead all scorers. She also added five rebounds and three steals.
Ana Caldeira Rua and
Shannon Northey both contributed with ten points each while
Ieva Sukeviciute chipped in with eight points and six rebounds to round out the Brock leaders.
Ryerson had three starters in double digits led by Marin Scotten who registered 19 points and five assists. Sofia Paska collected 18 points and six steals while Cara Tiemens finished with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists in the victory.
For the game, Brock shot 36.8% (21-for-57) from the field, 20.0% (2-for-10) from long range and 66.7% (14-for-21) from the chariry stripe. Ryerson went 29-for-73 (39.7%) from the floor, 5-for-18 (27.8%) from beyond the arc and 18-for-25 (72.0%) from the free throw line.
The Badgers return to action Friday night when they take on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on the road.
