The Brock women's soccer team has a chance to make the playoffs this weekend.

The Badgers moved themselves into position with a pair of victories over the visiting Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday and Sunday. The Badgers won by scores of 2-1 and 5-0.

"It was a very professional weekend from the team overall. We controlled both games and I am very pleased we came away with all six points," said head coach Kevin Threthowan. "These six points, plus other results going our way gives us a very good chance in making the playoffs. The best thing overall is that we are the ones who are in control of playoffs now. We no longer have to rely on other results. It's up to us to get out there next weekend and get the job done."

With Laurier losing to Guelph, and Waterloo losing to York, the sixth-place Badgers (4-6-4) can make the OUA playoffs if they win, or draw, the Waterloo Warriors (4-7-4) on the road Saturday.

If they lose, then they must defeat Laurier (5-8-2) in their final game of the regular season, which is a home game on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.

In the first game against Algoma, Mel Schouten and Brianne Desa each found the back of the net.

"We created many chances in the first half and were able to convert two," said Trethowan. "Algoma made us work in the second half and defended strong. The end of the game was quite tight after Algoma scored a penalty, but Brock managed to keep it tight and pick up the three points."

On Sunday, the Badgers walked away with a 5-0 victory on a pair of goals and an assist courtesy of Samantha (Sam) Bayer.

Goalkeepers Marilena Spagnolo and Emma Hendrie combined for the shutout.
